Do I Need To Keep Dmg Files On My Computer Windows 7

Member Posts: 7 | Is it safe to move or delete cabinet files? I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me as to whether I can either delete, or move the large number of cabinet files which the DirectX Installer downloaded into my personal Downloads folder. When I downloaded the software from the Microsoft website it asked me to chose a destination point for the download, without suggesting a location (as is normal). Not having much IT knowledge I selected my personal download folder. I understand that a cabinet file is a single file created to hold a number of compressed files, and that during installation of a program, the compressed files in a cabinet are decompressed and copied to an appropriate directory for the user. I have also read different opinions as to whether it is safe to delete the cabinet files once the installation of the software is complete. If I cannot delete them I would at least like to remove them to a different place on my pc's hard drive as I don't want them clogging up my personal downloads folder. I have uninstalled the application (Media Player Classic) which was the reason I downloaded DirectX in the first place. Is it safe now to delete the cabinet files, or is there a danger I could cause damage to my system? I have enough space on my hard drive to accomodate the cabinet files on my pc, but I am unsure of the proper place to store them. Is it safe to move them to another destination on my hard disc and how do I go about doing this? |

Feb 09, 2018 No, just delete them. But just to be very clear: after you “unzip” the zip file - the individual files is not yet copied to the filesystem yet. So you have to explicitly “extract” them (because the terminology used in the pkzip program), which wil. One such question is, when I download a file from the Internet, for example the Skype app, I will download a.dmg file on my HDD. I can open it and use the app, however, when I close it and restart the computer, the app won't get installed to my apps as I am used to from Windows. Rather, I have to open up the.dmg every time. I have dmg files on my computer that I need to put on my friends new Macbook. When I try to put the files on an external hard drive it says that they are too large to transfer (each file is about 8 gigs). Transferring dmg files from a PC to an Apple.
